Charlie

Health: Charlie has been successfully treated for heart worms. He does have skin allergies that are treated with a single (inexpensive) pill every night.  

Demeanor: Friendly, goofy, gentle, calm

Likes: Walks, carrots, snuggling, chew toys , peanut butter, belly rubs  

Manners: House-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, does well in a car  

Activity level: Moderately active (walks), apartment appropriate    

Bio: My name is Charlie, and I was a stray found in my foster parent’s neighborhood.  They took me in and treated me as their own and gave me time to heal, but now I hope to find my forever home!

When they found me, I could tell by their expressions that my foster parents saw I had problems.  I had barely any hair on my back and was covered in angry red spots. I also didn’t have a lot of energy.  They took me to the doctor who told us that I was heart worm positive, with untreated allergies that caused my hair to fall out.  A friend of my foster parents donated money for treatment and I’m happy to say that I’m heart worm negative and have a full healthy coat.  I still get “pilled” every night though to keep the “itcheys” away, although the only thing this seems to amount to is a teaspoon of peanut butter right before bedtime!
 
I didn’t understand at first, but now I know that my name is Charlie. Nicknames include Charlie-Barley, Char-Bear, or if I’m being dapper, Charles. I don’t know many tricks, but I know what sit means and generally come when called.  Although I enjoy soaking up the sun on the porch during sunny days, I’m generally an inside dog who likes to laze around near a human.  I enjoy being close to them and follow them around whenever they leave the room.  

When it comes to the great outdoors, I have a tendency to avoid grass.  My foster parents think it has to do with my allergies.  Even when I need to go to the bathroom really bad, sometimes I hesitate.  That said, all they have to do through the glass door is point toward the yard and I know it’s not up to debate.  I do love walks though, they don’t bother me one bit.  In fact, if a human says W-A-L-K to another human, I’m starting to think that means WALK!
 
I’m remarkably quiet for a medium sized dog, but put me in a crate and I’ll let you know how I feel about it!  I really don’t like being crated, but I’m used to it.  I tend to bark my head off as my foster parents are leaving to go to work, but when they come home I'm always silently wagging my tail as I know I’m about to get out!  Besides that, I get the attention of humans generally by staring with doe-eyes.
 
I know some homes don’t like my kind to get up on the couch or the bed, but I’ve got to admit I like a good couch!  Laying next to my foster parents is one of my favorite things to do in the whole wide world, and guilting them into letting me nap with them in the bed is something I’ve gotten particularly good at.  I even sleep like a human, often laying between them with my head resting on a pillow or the crook of someone’s arm.  To me that’s heaven!
 
I enjoy car rides!  I tend to be a little antsy at first, with all of the excitement and mystery about where we’re going.  Soon though I calm down and enjoy the ride - I even enjoy sticking my head out the window from time to time.

I like everyone.  I have two foster siblings.  The older girl is a little feisty, but the younger boy is my best dog friend.  He likes to lick in my ears and groom me.  I also have a cat foster brother.  We're not particularly close, but every now and again I like to give him a sniff.  I guess you could say I'm easy to get along with.  My foster parents even say I'm the easiest foster dog they've ever had!

The adoption fee for Charlie is $225.00 which includes altering, heartworm testing, vaccines and micro-chipping. We accept applications from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. We also require a $20 application fee. Email  teamBTRTOC@gmail.com with questions.
